Our day started at the Otter Creek river fishing access point in Big Timer, Montana. This is a free camping site along the river without any services, but the view is incredible. As the sun rose and lit up the mountains in the distance, all the colors around us glowed brilliant shades of orange, yellow, green and blue.

Andi asked Aden if he wanted to take a drive together to go to the Big Timber Bakery, and Aden hopped on the chance. The two of them left the RV around 7:00am, and as I looked out the window I saw Aden behind the wheel of the Jeep! Andi let him drive all around the open field area near the boat landing. The look on Aden’s face was priceless — pure joy! In order to both reach the gas pedal and see over the steering wheel, he had to sit on one foot.

A little while later, the boys left for the bakery (with Andi behind the wheel) and returned with a couple of omelets, hash browns and donuts. Andi and I packed up the RV and ate breakfast on the road driving toward Missoula.

Today, we’d arranged to pick up Janie and Jim at the Missoula airport. Andi rented an airbnb for them stay in during their visit. Our family will continue to stay in our RV parked outside the rental cabin.

While Andi picked Janie and Jim up at the airport, I shopped for groceries at COSTCO in Missoula. Once we were all loaded up in the RV, we drove two hours south to Sula, Montana in the Bitterroot Mountains. This is the third time this year we’ve stayed in the Sula area. We really enjoy the quiet beauty of the wilderness here, and there’s no shortage of things to do including hiking, trail riding, fishing, hot springs, and more.

We arrived to the rental cabin in Sula around 7:00pm, and everyone was hungry. I picked up pre-made ribs at COSTCO, so we re-heated those in the oven alongside steamed green beans. I brought a bunch of games with us in the RV, so the six of entertained ourselves playing Jenga until bedtime.

We’re excited to show Jim & Janie some our favorite spots in southwestern Montana in the coming days.
