Norwegian Sun Cruise - Day 4

Tuesday, March 4, 2025

Life on the cruise ship is starting to feel like Groundhog’s Day. Today was our 4th day on board the Norwegian Sun. We were always scheduled to be at sea today, but now tomorrow will also be a sea day due to our change in course itinerary. Four straight days on the ship has people feeling caged.

Andi had work calls this morning starting at 5:30am. He left our stateroom early, and took his work to one of the 12th floor ballrooms where he could converse with his work colleagues. He was a bit frustrated to learn that no one at work had been receiving his emails the past four days, and he had not been receiving their messages. He said it had something to do with us being at sea (outside a physical country) which flagged the messages as spam through their email system.

When he finished his calls around 8:30am, Andi, Tory, Aden, and I went to breakfast at The Garden buffet. Today was another beautiful day of warm temperatures and sunshine, so we ate outdoors. We noticed more humidity in the air as we journeyed further north along Australia’s eastern coastline.

After breakfast, Aden went to the Splash Academy kids program on ship, as he begs to do every morning. The kids play games like gaga ball and cup stacking, and also have time to play electronic games on the Nintendo Switch and Playstation. We’ve barely seen him except for meal times the past four days! He really enjoys hanging out with all the kids on the ship, and the NCL counselors seem fun & engaging.

Andi continued to work after breakfast while Tory and I did her school work in our stateroom. Afterwards, she asked if she could pay for a Starbucks iced drink from the cafe on the ship, so we walked down to the 5th floor cafe together. While we were there, I looked through plaques displaying ports for the Norwegian Sun. I wanted to see if I could find one for Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel in 2007. Yesterday, Andi and I realized that we’ve sailed on the Norwegian Sun before when we visited those destinations. Isn’t that funny? We were 28 years old.

The four of us regrouped for lunch in the Seven Seas main dining room. Then, Aden and I did his school work after lunch.

Andi and I have continually met our 10,000 daily step goal, even on the ship. We walk for a mile in the morning and another mile in the afternoon around the Norwegian Sun’s outdoor walking/jogging track. As we walked, we noticed that the Coral Sea is much calmer today; we must have distanced ourselves from Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

For dinner, we dined at the ship’s other main dining room called Four Seas. Andi ordered the lobster off the specialty menu, and it was huge! It looked really delicious. Aden had shrimp with orzo pasta, and I had rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes again. Tory said the star of her meal was the Andes mint chocolate mousse she had for dessert.

After dinner, we attended a hula hoop show in the Stardust Theatre. A woman by the name of Lisa Lottie gave a circus performance using LED hula hoops which was impressive and entertaining.

One more day at sea tomorrow before we reach our first port destination of Cairns, Australia. Tomorrow will likely be a repeat of today — breakfast, school, lunch, workout, dinner, and an early bedtime. The ship is a very comfortable place to spend the week together, so we really can’t complain. I told Andi, my favorite part of this cruise has been all the quality one-on-one time we’ve spent with Tory. I realize how lucky we are to have that time with her during her teenage years.
