Adelaide, SA, Australia - Day 7

Tuesday, February 25, 2025

Our last full day in Adelaide was a slow one. Andi and I both woke up around 6:00am. He worked on his computer, and went for a walk around Adelaide’s Central Business District early this morning. When he returned to the apartment, Andi said he wasn’t feeling 100% today; he felt lightheaded and just “off.”

I blogged this morning, and then did a bodyweight workout in our apartment.

Tory slept until 11:30am; she is turning into a teenager more and more everyday. She’s always had trouble sleeping through the night, so I let her rest while I did school work with Aden. His new haircut is so cute! He looks so much older and has a new confidence about him, too, I think.

Tory jumped into school work once she was up for the day. She loves to test Andi to see if he can solve the math problems she’s working on. Today’s quiz was something about “X number of pigs in a pen and how many tails…” What a gift that we get to be present with our kids everyday, and to be an active part of their learning.

It was 2:30pm by the time Tory finished her school work, and Andi said he felt nauseous from missing lunch. He suggested we go to Guzman & Gomez — a fast-food Mexican place the barber told him about yesterday. Funny enough, one of the reasons why the hairdresser wants to visit the United States, she told Andi, is to try all the fast food. She said Guzman & Gomez is the closest thing Australians have to Chipotle.

Guzman & Gomez isn’t a build-your-own bar like Chipotle, but they did have tacos, burritos, and nachos on their menu. The portion sizes were much smaller than America’s Mexican fast-food chains.

When Tory asked Andi if we could get frozen yogurt after lunch and Andi responded with a yes, she was surprised. “I wasn’t expecting you to agree,” she said with a smile. “I thought it was going to be like when I ask for the big jar of Cheez-Balls at Sam’s Club, and Mom always says no.”

We went back to Yo-Bar because it has the best toppings choices. Frozen yogurt can be healthy, but Tory and Aden skipped right past the fresh fruit section, and loaded their bowls with boba bubbles, chocolate sauce, and mini M&Ms.

After fro-yo, the four of us walked around Rundle Mall. There were a lot more street artists and performers on the pedestrian mall today. Andi suggested we stop into a jewelry store to see if they would clean my ring and earrings. They graciously did so free of charge. I also bought some more shampoo & conditioner at Sephora. Love that I can find the same brand of products in Australia as in the USA.

Andi and I capped off our last evening in Adelaide with one last walk around our neighborhood in the CBD. While we walked, Andi and I talked about our travels so far this winter, and how much we’re enjoying Australia. It’s so easy to travel here, the weather is warm, and the people are friendly. I love that we can drink the water and that we can get anything we need. Food is comparable to the USA so the kids are happy. And, for the most part, Andi has been feeling well (aside from a few days here or there). I think that has a lot to do with clean conditions, hot water & soap availability, less public transportation, and the fact that no one is sick here.

Tomorrow is a travel day from Adelaide to Auckland, New Zealand. I’m so glad we came to Adelaide and experienced life in an everyday Australian city. We loved it here.
